  12. Levinson Lyon Business Accounting System v2.12.1 has been tested as
  13. compatible with LANtastic versions 4.xx and 5.xx.

  15. Product Overview
  16. The Levinson Lyon family of computerized accounting modules have
  17. been designed for general business accounting and emphasize ease of
  18. use and multi-user access. Modules include Accounts Receivable,
  19. Billing, Inventory Control, Accounts Payable and General Ledger.

  21. Installation
  22. The machine on which the system will be installed must be
  23. configured as a LANtastic server. Installation is accomplished from
  24. floppy disks. Insert software disk #1 in the floppy drive and from
  25. the floppy prompt type:

  27.      INSTALL 
  28.  
  29. Respond to the prompts and insert the remaining diskettes as they
  30. are requested. The installation procedure will not ask for network
  31. type. Verify your CONFIG.SYS file meets the "Files=" and "Buffers="
  32. requirements as outlined in Guide to Operations Chapter 2.

  34. Configuration
  35. After successful installation, configure the server by:
  36.  
  37. Begin the application by typing LYON at the DOS prompt
  38.  
  39. Choose "Utilities" from the left menu, then "Computer Definition"
  40. from the right menu. Enter the requested information paying
  41. particular attention to the Network Device Map. Each drive used by
  42. the application is mapped to a DOS local or network drive. This
  43. alleviates the requirement that a series of DOS drives must be
  44. uniformly reserved by all network workstations that will use the
  45. application. Note that the LYON "Machine Name" is the LANtatstic
  46. redirector machine name.

  48. At the Main Menu, choose "Printer Configurations" (right menu) to
  49. configure your printers
  50.  
  51. Access to Levinson Lyon from a LANtastic workstation To use the
  52. accounting package from a LANtastic workstation, perform the
  53. following steps:
  54.  
  55.      Net Login \\<LYON Server> <Username> <Password> 
  56.      Net Use L: \\<LYON Server>\C-DRIVE\
  57.      L:
  58.      Cd LYON
  59.      LYON
  60.  
  61. Each workstation must also be configured as outlined above
  62.  
  63. Security
  64. Security may become an issue when sharing data among multiple users
  65. on a network. Password protection can be implemented following the
  66. instructions in Chapter 2 in "Guide to Operations".

  68. Multi-User Access
  69. For multi-user use be sure to load the DOS SHARE program on the
  70. Levinson Lyon server before starting the LANtastic network.
  71. Levinson Lyon use a combination of file and record locking to allow
  72. multiple simultaneous access and updates of data files. If two
  73. users are simultaneously modifying the same data record, one of the
  74. users will receive the non-fatal error message "Record no longer
  75. the same - Changes not processed".

  77. Report Printing
  78. Before starting the accounting package, issue the NET USE command
  79. through the operating system to establish a printer connection. For
  80. example:

  82.      Net Use LPT1 \\<Printer Server>\@PRINTER
  83.  
  84. Network Disconnects
  85. If a network disconnect occurs but the connection is reestablished
  86. before Net BIOS time-out, the application recovers completely.
  87. After time-out, however, the application will fail with the error
  88. message "Device I/O error in CTEMP"
  89.
